About the game
InfectUs is a free persistent online game on one shared real-world map. Every player is a virus. You start wherever you like, in your street, at your office or right under the Eiffel Tower, and grow cell by cell by drawing veins into the neighborhood. Every single virus is a little figure you can watch swim through glass cells and veins.
Sooner or later you run into the neighbors. Fight them for every cell, or team up with them in a swarm. Every cell counts for the real place it lies in, so every district, city, region and country has its own leaderboard, and seasons keep the race fresh. And every now and then, the health department rolls in with an ambulance to disinfect the neighborhood.
The story
Oliver Greil had only ever made complex niche games. Then his wife and daughter asked him to finally make a game they'd actually play too. InfectUs is the result, his first casual game.
Since I've never really been a casual gamer myself, it's been quite a challenge. My compromise: all the complexity went into the server. One shared real-world map for everyone, no shards.
Oliver Greil, creator of InfectUs
The first designs and the first line of code date back to August 2026. The internal closed alpha started on October 16, and the public alpha outbreak followed on November 1, 2026. Since then, the virus has been spreading around the globe.
Features
- 🌍One shared world. No shards, no instances: everyone plays on the same real-world map, down to every street, park and lake.
- 🦠Grow cell by cell. Drag veins from cell to cell and watch every single virus swim through them. Parks and water slow you down.
- ⚔️Fight for every cell. Lurking veins strike as soon as you outnumber the neighbor. Fronts, hold marks and rally points decide who wins.
- 🐝Team up in swarms. Feed your friends through shared veins and call them for help when the neighbors attack.
- 🚑The health department strikes back. Disinfection waves roll in by ambulance. Take it out and grab the loot.
- 🃏70 cards with silly powers. Crack capsids on the map and play cards like the Supersneezer.
- 🎨Build your own virus. Shapes, faces, patterns, gadgets, costumes and dance moves.
- 🏆Every place has a leaderboard. Districts, cities, regions and countries, with seasons and a live outbreak dashboard on infectus.io.
- 🌗Real day and night. The sun above your hotspot lights the map and casts its shadows.
- 📖A book of symptoms. 54 symptoms to collect, a daily dose of tasks and a monthly spa pass.
